Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before making a car rental reservation in Bergamo.

Introduction and Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to rentcarbergamo.com, an online car rental booking platform serving travellers in Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy, and the surrounding region. These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of our website, booking engine, and related services.

By visiting our website, completing a booking form, or making a reservation through our platform, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service in full. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you must not use our services.

These terms apply to all bookings made for vehicle hire pick-up at Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport, Bergamo city centre, or any other designated rental location in the Bergamo and Lombardy area. rentcarbergamo.com acts as an intermediary connecting renters with licensed vehicle rental suppliers operating in compliance with Italian law and EU consumer regulations.

We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms of Service at any time without prior notice. The version published on this page at the time of your booking shall govern your rental agreement. We encourage you to review this page before each reservation.

Eligibility Requirements for Car Rental in Bergamo

To rent a vehicle through our platform in Bergamo, all drivers must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements at the time of vehicle collection:

Age Requirements for Standard and Premium Vehicles

The minimum age to rent a standard economy or compact car in Bergamo is 21 years. Drivers between the ages of 21 and 24 are classified as young drivers and may be subject to an additional young driver surcharge as specified at the time of booking. This surcharge varies by supplier and vehicle category and will be displayed clearly before payment is confirmed.

For premium, luxury, convertible, or high-value vehicles - including vehicles valued above EUR 40,000 - the minimum driver age is 25 years. This requirement exists to comply with the insurance underwriting conditions applied by vehicle suppliers operating in the Lombardy region.

There is no upper age limit for renters, provided the driver holds a valid driving licence and meets all other eligibility criteria.

Driving Licence Requirements and International Permits

All renters and additional drivers must hold a valid, full driving licence that has been held for a minimum of one year at the time of pick-up. The licence must not be provisional, restricted, or suspended.

Holders of a European Union driving licence issued by any EU or EEA member state may present their licence directly at the rental desk without any additional documentation. Italian law recognises all EU licences as valid for driving on public roads in Bergamo and throughout Italy.

Visitors holding a driving licence issued outside the European Union - including licences from the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada, and other countries - are strongly advised to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their country of licence issue before travelling. An IDP must be accompanied by the original national driving licence at all times. Some rental suppliers in Bergamo may refuse to hand over a vehicle without a valid IDP from non-EU licence holders.

It is the renter's sole responsibility to ensure that all documents are valid, unexpired, and appropriate for the class of vehicle being hired.

Bookings, Reservations, and Cancellation Policy

Reservation Process for Bergamo Car Hire

A booking is confirmed only when you receive a written confirmation email from rentcarbergamo.com containing a unique booking reference number. Until this confirmation is issued, no reservation is considered binding. We recommend keeping your confirmation email for presentation at the rental counter at Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport or any city centre pick-up location.

When completing your reservation, you are responsible for ensuring that all details entered - including pick-up date, pick-up time, drop-off location, driver name, and selected vehicle category - are accurate. Errors in pick-up time may result in the vehicle being released to other renters, particularly during peak periods such as summer weekends and the Easter holiday period when demand at Bergamo Airport is high.

Free Cancellation Terms and Conditions

Many vehicles available through our platform are offered with free cancellation, as indicated at the time of search and on your booking confirmation. Free cancellation bookings may be cancelled at no charge up to 48 hours before the scheduled pick-up time. Cancellations made within 48 hours of pick-up may be subject to a cancellation fee equivalent to one rental day at the rate confirmed at booking.

Non-refundable rates are offered at a discount and cannot be cancelled or amended once confirmed. The cancellation terms applicable to your specific reservation are displayed clearly on the booking summary page before you submit payment and again in your confirmation email.

No-Show and Late Pick-Up Policy

If you fail to collect your vehicle at the confirmed pick-up time and do not notify us in advance, your reservation may be treated as a no-show. In such cases, the full rental amount may be charged and no refund will be due. If you are delayed due to a late flight arriving at Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport, please contact the supplier directly using the contact details on your confirmation as soon as possible.

Pricing, Payment, and Optional Extras

Displayed Prices and Currency

All prices displayed on rentcarbergamo.com are expressed in Euro (EUR) and are inclusive of Italian VAT (IVA) at the applicable rate unless stated otherwise. Prices shown represent the base rental rate for the vehicle category selected and the duration specified. The total price including any selected extras is shown on the booking summary page before payment is collected.

Prices are subject to change until a booking is confirmed. Once a confirmation email has been issued, the price is fixed and will not be altered unless you make amendments to your reservation such as changing dates, vehicle category, or pick-up location.

What Is Included in Your Bergamo Car Rental Rate

The base rental rate includes the use of the selected vehicle for the confirmed rental period, unlimited mileage where specified, basic Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) insurance, third-party liability coverage as required by Italian law, and local taxes. Road assistance is included for mechanical failures in standard conditions.

The base rate does not include fuel. Vehicles are provided with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank of the correct fuel type. If the vehicle is returned with less fuel, a refuelling charge will be applied by the supplier at commercial pump prices plus an administrative fee.

Optional Extras Available with Your Bergamo Rental

The following optional extras may be added to your booking at the time of reservation or, where available, at the rental counter. Availability varies by supplier and location:

  • Child seats, baby seats, and booster seats for infants and children of all ages
  • GPS satellite navigation systems for exploring Bergamo's Val Seriana, Franciacorta, and Lake Iseo routes
  • Additional driver registration - all drivers must be registered and meet eligibility requirements
  • Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) to reduce or eliminate the excess liability amount
  • Personal accident insurance for driver and passengers
  • Portable WiFi hotspot devices for connectivity during road trips through Lombardy
  • Toll transponder (telepass) for use on Italian motorways including the A4 between Bergamo and Milan

Optional extras selected online are charged at the rate displayed during booking. Extras added at the rental counter are subject to the supplier's prevailing counter rates, which may differ from online prices.

Vehicle Use Rules and Prohibited Activities

Permitted Use of Rental Vehicles in Bergamo and Lombardy

All rental vehicles must be used solely for lawful purposes and in accordance with Italian traffic law (Codice della Strada). Vehicles may be driven on public roads throughout Italy including the A4 motorway linking Bergamo to Milan and Venice, the SS671 through the Val Seriana, and provincial roads to Lake Iseo and Lake Como.

The renter is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is operated safely at all times and that all passengers wear seatbelts as required by Italian law. Child restraint systems must be used for children under 1.50 metres in height and under 36 kilograms in weight, in accordance with Italian traffic regulations.

Activities Strictly Prohibited Under Your Rental Agreement

The following activities are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination of the rental agreement, full liability for all damages, and potential legal action:

  • Operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that impairs driving ability
  • Using the vehicle for off-road driving, racing, track days, or any competitive motorsport activity
  • Subletting, lending, or transferring the vehicle to any person not registered as an additional driver at the time of booking
  • Using the vehicle for commercial transportation of passengers for reward or hire
  • Transporting hazardous materials, flammable substances, or illegal goods
  • Driving the vehicle outside Italy or into countries not covered by the rental agreement without prior written consent
  • Attempting to tow another vehicle or trailer without express authorisation from the supplier
  • Leaving the vehicle unlocked, unattended with the engine running, or with keys visible inside the vehicle

Violation of any prohibited activity clause voids all insurance coverage included in or purchased with the rental and renders the renter personally liable for the full replacement value of the vehicle and any third-party damages arising from the incident.

Insurance Coverage and Renter Liability

Basic Collision Damage Waiver Included with All Bergamo Rentals

All vehicle rentals booked through rentcarbergamo.com include a basic Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) as a standard component of the rental rate. CDW reduces - but does not eliminate - the renter's financial liability in the event of damage to the rental vehicle. The excess amount (the sum the renter remains liable for in case of an at-fault incident) varies by vehicle category and supplier, and is displayed on the vehicle details page and in your booking confirmation.

Typical excess amounts for Bergamo car rentals range from EUR 500 for economy and compact vehicles to EUR 2,500 or more for premium, luxury, and SUV categories. The excess applies per incident and is not cumulative across the rental period.

Third-Party Liability Insurance as Required by Italian Law

All rental vehicles are covered by third-party liability insurance (RC Auto) as mandated by Italian law (Legislative Decree 209/2005). This coverage protects against claims from third parties for bodily injury and property damage arising from the use of the vehicle on public roads in Italy.

Optional Full Coverage and Excess Reduction

Renters may purchase Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) or equivalent excess reduction products to lower or eliminate the excess payable in the event of damage. These products are offered either at the time of online booking or at the rental counter. We recommend purchasing excess protection in advance online, as counter rates are typically higher.

Please note that no insurance product - basic CDW, SCDW, or otherwise - covers damage caused by deliberate acts, prohibited use of the vehicle as defined in the previous section, windscreen and tyre damage unless a specific tyre and glass protection product has been purchased, or damage to the vehicle's undercarriage and roof panels unless full protection is in place.

Limitation of Liability

rentcarbergamo.com operates as an online intermediary and booking platform. We facilitate reservations between renters and independent, licensed vehicle rental suppliers based in Bergamo and the wider Lombardy region. We are not the vehicle owner, fleet operator, or direct rental provider.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable Italian and EU consumer protection law, rentcarbergamo.com shall not be liable for: any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform or a vehicle booked through it; loss of earnings, loss of enjoyment, or costs resulting from vehicle breakdown, accident, or supplier error; actions or omissions of third-party rental suppliers, including refusal to release a vehicle at the counter; damage, theft, or loss of personal belongings left inside a rental vehicle; or road closures, traffic conditions, or road works affecting travel times in Bergamo or Lombardy.

Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from a booking made through rentcarbergamo.com shall not exceed the total booking value paid by the renter for that specific reservation.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable Italian or EU law.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Italy, including the Italian Civil Code (Codice Civile), the Italian Consumer Code (Codice del Consumo, Legislative Decree 206/2005), and applicable European Union consumer protection directives.

Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms of Service, a booking made through rentcarbergamo.com, or the use of a rental vehicle in Bergamo that cannot be resolved amicably shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy.

If you are a consumer resident within the European Union, you may also have the right to submit a dispute through the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr in accordance with EU Regulation 524/2013.

These Terms of Service were last updated in 2025. The Italian language version of these terms shall prevail in the event of any conflict with a translated version.
